AComprehensiveAccount of COVID-19 Pandemic: Origin, Epidemiology, Diagnosis, Therapeutics, Control, Prevention and Recommendations.
ABSTRACT The dawn of this century despite having innumerable technological advances will have also reminisced forsudden surge andmortalities caused by major epidemicslike SARS. Flu. MERS. Ebola. Zika and COVID- 19. The scientific fraternity across the world warns that several pandemics like COVID-19 may be followed. After the relentless spread of COVID-19 with no respite till date, it seems the so-called advancing world was categorically ill-equipped to handle this menace. We desperately need new vaccines and antibiotics to hit the market, to get humanity rid of SARS-CoV-2. Several reasons like environmental turmoil, escalating travel, trade, and sheer neglect in public health systems have allowed the mushrooming and worldwide spread of this virulent pathogen. There are very high chances of emergence, spread, and terrible bouncing back of new strains of SARS-CoV-2.SARS-CoV-2has surfaced at such critical juncture when mankind is already struggling with menace of antibiotic resistance and imbalance in the global healthcare system where several have no access to medicines and diagnostics that could save their lives. Though several accounts on SARS-CoV-2 have emerged in due course of time a detailed report covering its genesis to management is lacking. In this review, we present a comprehensive account of SARS-CoV-2 pathogen and its several aspects related to human health, economic, social, international cooperation, and security risks. We also suggest how advances in STEM can be efficiently employed to diminish the effects of such outbreaks. Development of vaccines and similar highly ambitious ventures are also discussed. A strong emphasis on existing treatment modalities, web-based surveillance tools, diagnostics, computational methods, pathogen surveillance, rapid pathogen genome sequencing mathematical modelling and options still with us are also discussed. We also comment on science policies that governments may consider to commendably contain suchoutbreaks regionally and globally. We believe that this detailed report on COVID-19 will help scientificfraternity, policymakers, healthcare officials, and the world at large for efficient outbreak interventions.
