CONDITION CATEGORY WORDS: PROBLEMS OF TRANSLATION INTO GEORGIAN

The article is devoted to the comparative analysis of sentences with words of the category of condition and their corresponding sentences in the Georgian translation. The material for the study was M. Gorky's literary essays and their translations into the Georgian language, made by G. Merkviladze. The strategies of full-fledged transmission of the considered units in the secondary text are revealed. The abundant illustrative material shows that the absence of impersonal predicative adverbs in the Georgian language is compensated by the use of grammatical and lexical transformations in translation. The cases of syntactic synonymy are considered, in which several formal syntactic structures in translation correspond to one semantic structure of the source text.
