Mapping and Analysis of the Impact of Coastal Erosion Using Remote Sensing: A case Study of Port Harcourt Coastline

This study has been able display the usefulness of remote sensing and GIS technologies in mapping and analysis of coastal erosion in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The results revealed that between 2010 and 2014, coastal erosion had a trend growth of 9.40%, this indicates that the annual rate of growth of coastal erosion between said year is 2.35% per year. Also, between 2014 and 2018 coastal erosion had a trend growth of 7.91% and annual rate of growth of 1.967% per year. This result indicates a rising trend of coastal erosion in Port Harcourt, a combined total of 4.32% in growth rate between 2010 and 2018. It is recommended that the inhabitants living in the coastal region should be sensitized on coastal erosion in the area so they can be prepared if and when the area Erosions.
