A Study on the Technological Impacts of ICTs on Migration

Abstract This paper begins by reviewing the literature to find connections between the use of ICTs and human development achievements. The study then examines situations in which ICTs impact migration opportunities and their consequences. We'll see how migrants utilize ICTs and the role that these technologies now play in their lives. This paper reviews research that shows how ICTs are used in both regular and irregular migration, in maintaining family relations, in sustaining cultural identities, and in supporting a family from abroad in an effort to highlight both the positive and negative implications of ICTs' roles in human mobility. We shall observe that while ICTs have significantly expanded the number of communication alternatives, they have not completely supplanted more traditional means of communication. While mentioning situations in which they actively seek the reverse, this paper also discusses the responsibilities that governments and civil society play in attempting to improve access to and usage of ICTs. As we will show, although they are distributed unevenly, the infrastructure required to access ICTs and the skills required to use them are present in every nation in the world.
