USING ROLE-PLAYING AND DRAMA TO TEACH ENGLISH CONVERSATION SKILLS

Traditional EFL instruction often emphasizes grammar and reading comprehension, leaving students with limited speaking confidence and fluency. This study examines the effectiveness of role-playing and drama techniques in improving EFL learners’ conversation skills. A quasi-experimental mixed-methods approach was used, involving 40 EFL students divided into an experimental group (drama-based instruction) and a control group (traditional methods) over six weeks. The findings reveal that students exposed to drama-based activities demonstrated a 28% increase in fluency, a 25% improvement in pronunciation accuracy, and an 81% boost in speaking confidence. Furthermore, 70% of participants reported feeling more comfortable engaging in real-life conversations. These results highlight the importance of integrating structured drama techniques into EFL curricula to enhance learners’ oral proficiency.
