Green Chemistry Approaches For Wastewater Treatment: Eco-Friendly Solutions For Sustainable Water Management

Abstract: The concepts of green chemistry provide novel and sustainable approaches to wastewater treatment, reducing environmental impact and improving water management. This study examines many environmentally sustainable techniques, such as bioremediation, adsorption using natural substances, photocatalysis, and electrochemical approaches. The paper provides experimental data, implementation methodologies, and a thorough conclusion advocating for the use of green chemistry in wastewater treatment. The green approach to wastewater treatment solutions seeks to advance sustainable and eco-friendly ways for wastewater management, whilst minimizing the environmental effect of conventional treatment operations. Therefore, the aim of this work was to conduct a critical assessment of environmentally sustainable wastewater treatment procedures using established methods for data collection from secondary sources. Data indicates that energy-efficient treatment systems, like anaerobic digestion and membrane bioreactors, use less energy than conventional treatment methods. The treatment of wastewater for reuse may decrease the demand for freshwater resources and the energy necessary for water treatment. Onsite wastewater treatment methods, including septic systems and composting toilets, may decrease the volume of wastewater requiring transit and treatment at centralized facilities. Integrating green infrastructure, such rain gardens and permeable pavement, into urban environments may decrease the volume of stormwater runoff that enters the wastewater treatment system. Harvesting nutrients, including nitrogen and phosphorus, from wastewater may serve as a fertilizer for crops, therefore reducing the need on synthetic fertilizers. These eco-friendly wastewater treatment systems seek to diminish energy consumption, chemical use, and environmental effect associated with conventional wastewater treatment methods, while fostering sustainable and efficient resource utilization
