Watermarks for AI Ethics: Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam philosophy and AI Ethics for a Sustainable Water Future for All
Jal hi Jeevan hai! Water is the essence of life. It holds deep significance in Indian philosophy too. It is regarded as one of the Panchamahabhuta (five basic fundamental elements) which is rooted in ancient vedas and upanishadic wisdom. Water symbolizes purity, balance, and interconnectedness. This is in inline with the core prescription of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (The world is one family) thus emphasizing collective responsibility and equitable resource sharing for all. Ganga is reffered as Mother who gives life to all. In today’s tech-powered era, AI is transforming water management, from climate study to smart country irrigation. A key step toward ethical AI is transparent watermarking, which enhances accountability and traceability in AI-powered water management. Analogous to traditional Bharatiya practices ensuring authenticity, watermarking aligns with Dharma, reinforcing our moral duty toward nature and society. This paper explores how Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam can guide AI ethics in sustainable water management, advocating for transparent AI watermarking as a means to ensure fairness, accountability, and just resource distribution.
