India’s rural healthcare system faces persistent challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, workforce shortages, and limited accessibility. Recent technological advancements, such astelemedicine, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven diagnostics, and digital health records, have emerged aspotential solutions to bridge the rural-urban healthcare divide. This review-based study examines thesociological implications of integrating technology into India’s rural healthcare structure. It exploreshow technology impacts healthcare accessibility, doctor-patient relationships, and health-seekingbehaviour among rural populations. The paper critically analyses how digital health interventionsinfluence social stratification, digital literacy, and healthcare inequalities. It also reviews the role ofpublic and private sector initiatives in promoting technological integration and their implications formarginalized communities. Drawing from sociological theories, such as functionalism and the digitaldivide perspective, this study highlights both the opportunities and socio-cultural challengesassociated with rural healthcare digitization. While technology has the potential to democratizehealthcare access, disparities in digital literacy, affordability, and infrastructural gaps may furthermarginalize vulnerable groups. This research underscores the need for inclusive and communitycentrictechnological models that account for the socio-economic and cultural dimensions of rural India.By reviewing existing literature and policy frameworks, the study provides recommendations forequitable and sustainable technological interventions in rural healthcare. The findings contribute tosociological discourse on technology and health, emphasizing the importance of a holistic, humancenteredapproach in rural healthcare transformation.
