Design and Fabrication of Experimental Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers for Distilled Water Production
This study was conducted to design, analysis, and fabricate a tube heat exchanger prototype for producing distilled water. The Apparatus has three main system components: the shell side, tube side, and baffles. The shell and tube sides are made of galvanised steel, and the baffles are arranged in segments. A pressure gauge measures the amount of pressure in any section of a pipe. The test was carried out using a heater with a capacity of six litres, or approximately 0.006 m3. The heater, pumps, and tanks were all connected by pipes, having 21.34 mm diameter, and 12.70 mm long. The results revealed that at extremely high temperatures above atmospheric conditions, the water transforms into steam, which is then converted back to water through heat exchange. When considering the shell and tube sides of a heat exchanger, the temperature curve agrees very well with experimental data.
