THE CONCEPTUALIZATION OF THE PERSON IN ENGLISH-LANGUAGE MEDIA DIS-COURSE THROUGH LEXICAL UNITS AND FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE ELEMENTS
Abstract Both grammatical structures and lexical elements, including figurative language, play a significant role in the conceptualization of individuals across various genres of media discourse. The rationale for examining lexical units alongside metaphors in this chapter stems from the close interaction between these two essential linguistic tools in shaping the representation of individuals in media texts. Accordingly, the objective of this study is to identify the linguistic metaphors commonly employed in English-language news texts, to elucidate their function in the conceptualization of individuals, and to analyze the influence of metaphorical language on participants engaged in this genre of discourse.
