Incitare l'Italia preunitaria all'insurrezione. Le strategie di Giuseppe Ricciardi per aggirare la censura (1832-1861)
This article investigates the dissemination strategies adopted by Giuseppe Ricciardi, a republican patriot and democratic writer, with the objective of ensuring that his oeuvre reached pre-unified Italy in order to encourage popular insurrections against Austrian domination. Due to the vehement political denunciations contained within his work, Ricciardi was compelled to exhibit both considerable inventiveness and persistence in reaching his readership and audience, despite the pervasive censorship prevailing in Italy. Through an analysis of 19th-century periodicals, the author’s publications, his correspondence, and autobiographical manuscripts, this study highlights Ricciardi’s editorial decisions, sending tactics, personal financial investments, and his strategic connections with the press, all of which were instrumental in his efforts to engage and mobilize the Italian public.
