REINVENTING OIL AND GAS OPERATIONS THROUGH CIRCULAR ENGINEERING: A ZERO-DISCHARGE HORIZONS FRAMEWORK INTEGRATING AI, CARBON CAPTURE, AND WASTE-TO-VALUE INNOVATION
The global energy sector is undergoing a paradigm shift to meet net-zero commitments, with circular engineering emerging as a vital framework for the oil and gas industry. This paper presents a "Zero-Discharge Horizons Framework" that integrates Artificial Intelligence (AI), carbon capture and storage (CCS), and waste-to-value (WTV) strategies to close material and energy loops within upstream and downstream operations. By embedding predictive analytics, emissions monitoring, and closed-loop material recovery into operations, oil and gas facilities can transition toward zero-discharge models. The framework is grounded in techno-economic feasibility and draws from proven innovations in circular economy systems, thereby offering a roadmap to align hydrocarbon industries with sustainability and decarbonization targets.
