La metropoli come soggetto o dell'identità sottratta: frammenti e coincidenze in «Manhattan Transfer»
In this article I investigated the relationship between the man and the city through John Dos Passos’s novel Manhattan Transfer. The city is not merely the background of the novel, but it is a character itself; however the preeminence of the city puts in doubt the importance of the character's status. Following some significant theories about the novel, I analyzed how the multiplicity of characters and the use of cinematic editing allow the author to create “an impression” of the city rather than a traditional novel.
