Evaluation of relationship between systemic osteoporosis and reduction of residual ridge in edentulous patients
Residual ridge is a term used to describe the shape of the alveolar ridge that remains following a tooth extraction. It is a term used to describe that portion of residual bone along with the soft tissue structures supporting it that remain after extractions [1]. However, after extraction of teeth the alveolar portion of the jaws atrophies and leads to the formation of residual ridge. [2]. The success of any removal complete denture prosthesis depends on factors like retention, stability, support, architecture of jaw for which a good ridge is imperative. But after extractions not only the quantity but also the quality of the residual ridge decreases. [3]
