PRAGMALINGUISTIC PROBLEMS OF LITERARY TEXT TRANSLATION

This study examines the pragmalinguistic challenges encountered in literary translation, with particular attention to the intersection of linguistic form and communicative function across languages. The research analyzes how pragmatic elements—including speech acts, implicature, presupposition, and cultural references—create significant obstacles for translators of literary texts. Drawing on examples from world literature and Uzbek literary works, this paper identifies recurring pragmalinguistic problems and evaluates translation strategies employed to address them. The study highlights the importance of pragmatic competence for literary translators and proposes theoretical frameworks for analyzing pragmalinguistic equivalence in translation. The findings contribute to translation theory by emphasizing the need for approaches that consider both linguistic structure and pragmatic function when transferring literary meaning across cultural and linguistic boundaries.
