HISTORY AS AN OBJECT OF RESEARCH IN THE WORKS OF WRITERS "FIRST WAVE" OF EMIGRATION

Abstract The article examines history as an object of study in the works of writers of the “first wave” of emigration. History is full of remarkable events that arise as a violation of the normal course of movement, which confronts a person with the fact of the need for choice, and is an impetus for the movement of his thoughts and emotions. Each historical stage chosen by the writer for artistic reconstruction opens up before him a wide, diverse life “plane” on which the socio-political, moral, psychological, and religious institutions of society give rise to complex intertwining of the lives of individual people and even an entire nation. Speaking about the revaluation of history, conditioned by time, we cannot, of course, forget about the continuity of literature, the reliance on traditions on which historical prose is based. Each new generation relies on the invaluable artistic experience of the masters of previous generations, however, differing from them with a new look, determined by the new time. When talking about historical fiction, one cannot focus only on “rewriting” old themes. Historical prose is also characterized by the process of addressing new topics, topics that writers of the previous generation have not yet addressed. Sometimes a historical event contains certain mysteries, codes that the writer needs to solve and decipher. This provides the writer with a certain freedom in the interpretation of historical phenomena, and he interprets certain historical facts in his own way, sometimes expressing the otherness of his position and his attitude. This is another incentive to create an interesting work in the genre of historical literature
