Environmental and climate considerations in research and innovation activities: competency profile development via a Delphi consensus study

Achieving a just green transition in Europe, as envisaged in the European Green Deal, requires training across the research and innovation sectors on how to adequately take into account environmental, climate and broader justice considerations in research and innovation activities. In developing training, specifying competency profiles for different roles or professional fields within the research and innovation sector can help ensure all actors have the skills, knowledge, attitudes and abilities to contribute to the green transition. Competency profiles also allow training to address specific areas of development. In this study we will use a modified Delphi approach to identify areas of consensus amongst expert environmental ethics educators on competency profiles for four target groups for whom training on environmental and climate considerations in research and innovation is relevant. The competency profiles will subsequently be used as a basis for designing micromodules that can be combined into tailored training pathways for the different target groups.
