Technology for Sustainable Concrete
Addressing the challenges posed by global warming and environmental degradation has become a priority in modern construction. Concrete, a fundamental building material, is a major consumer of energy and natural resources while also contributing significantly to CO₂ emissions, primarily due to cement production. The large-scale manufacturing of concrete places strain on resources, energy consumption, and ecological balance, making it essential to develop sustainable alternatives. This paper explores various sustainable concrete technologies investigated in Korean research, focusing on: Enhancing the durability of deteriorated concrete structures through advanced strengthening techniques, Developing eco-friendly reinforcement methods for new construction, Incorporating recycled aggregates and supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) to minimize environmental impact, and Applying these sustainable strategies in precast concrete manufacturing. By adopting these innovations, the construction industry can achieve more durable, resource-efficient, and environmentally responsible concrete solutions, ultimately reducing its carbon footprint while maintaining structural performance and longevity.
