Evaluation of Technology for Biogas Purification: A Sustainable Approach
Biogas, produced from anaerobic digestion, contains valuable methane (CH₄) but is often contaminated with carbon dioxide (CO₂), hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), moisture, and other impurities. Purification is essential to upgrade biogas to biomethane suitable for energy applications. This study explores the effectiveness of scrubbing technologies—specifically water scrubbing, chemical scrubbing, and biological scrubbing—in enhancing biogas quality. A comparative analysis based on a rural case study in India reveals water scrubbing as an efficient and economical option, especially for small- to medium-scale applications. The findings support scrubbing as a viable method for decentralized energy solutions.
