CARING FOR CANCER PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES: THE LIVED EXPERIENCES OF NURSING STUDENTS
This qualitative study examines the experiences of nursing students providing care for cancer patients and their families. The study uses thematic analysis to identify themes and patterns in the experiences of sixteen students through in-depth interviews. The results reveal a complex environment with strong emotional bonds, career advancement, and the importance of support networks. Nursing students reported various emotions, including nervous anticipation, empathy, and resilience, as they navigated the complexities of cancer care. Challenges such as lack of professional experience and perceived limitations were mitigated by guidance and support from mentors and peers. The study underscores the importance of comprehensive education and support systems to prepare nursing students for the emotional and practical demands of oncology nursing.
