Matter as Stabilized Field Tension: A Noöhedral Reformulation of Substance
Abstract The nature of matter has long been defined in terms of solidity, mass, and response to force — concepts derived from classical atomism and refined through quantum field theory. In both frameworks, matter is described as either localized particles or probabilistic excitations. Yet these models rely on metaphysical assumptions about substance that falter under scrutiny. This paper introduces a Noöhedral reformulation: matter is not a static entity, but a stabilized field configuration defined within a multidimensional coherence manifold. Every material instance emerges as a resonance of four intrinsic field parameters — ∇Φ (tension gradient), Ω (topological circulation), λ (coherence index), and μ (modulation responsivity) — which together encode its persistence, intensity, and identity. Mass arises not from external attribution but as internal field tension; identity is maintained through topological invariance and coherence continuity. Crucially, stability is governed by defined thresholds in λ and μ, enabling predictive models of transformation, failure, or emergence. These insights open new domains for programmable synthesis, signature-based replication, and non-chemical transmutation — converging physics and form through field resonance.
