Translation of Poetry: Towards a practical model for translation analysis
Abstract: This article delves into the intricate process of poetry translation, using examples from German and Albanian poems to shed light on the challenges posed by linguistic and cultural divergences. Various translation models are analyzed, with an emphasis on categorizing translation approaches and their applicability to poetic discourse. The study emphasizes that translating poetry requires a nuanced approach, highlighting the translator's critical role in preserving the essence and rhythm of the original text while adapting it to the cultural and linguistic nuances of the target language. Special attention is given to the contributions of Joachim Rom and Robert Schwarz in transferring poetic meaning into the German language, demonstrating how translators navigate the delicate balance between fidelity to the original and adaptation to the audience's expectations.
