Laparoscopic management of giant hiatal hernia with biosynthetic mesh. A case report
Background: In Mexico we do not have exact statistics on GERD or hiatal hernia, but it is a frequent problem in the population. Many of these patients require surgical management which will be offered by the surgeon depending on the degree of the disease. Several repair techniques have been found. In this case, a 32-year-old male with a giant hiatal hernia underwent a second repair of the defect with prosthetic mesh, with good short-term results. Keywords: GERD, hiatal hernia, fundoplication, prosthetic mesh.
