RDA Europe: Accelerating Open Science in Europe

RDA Europe, the European office of the RDA, is actively supporting the regional European communities, advocating for their unique and collective interests in the European data landscape, and facilitating the connection between national and global initiatives. RDA Europe is dedicated to advancing Open Science by addressing critical challenges in research data management (RDM) and fostering cross-disciplinary and international collaborations. As a key player in Europe’s research landscape, RDA Europe bridges local and global efforts, aligning its activities with the priorities of European research libraries and their stakeholders. This poster highlights RDA Europe’s strategic contributions to shaping the future of Open Science: - Standardization and Interoperability: Promoting the adoption and harmonization of data standards, tools, and best practices to enable seamless data sharing and reuse across disciplines and borders. - Capacity Building: Offering training, resources, and guidance to empower researchers, research managers, data stewards, and librarians in implementing and supporting FAIR data principles and sustainable RDM practices. - Knowledge Exchange: Serving as a hub for sharing technical recommendations, case studies, innovations, and good practices and fostering a culture of transparency and collaboration across Europe’s research ecosystem. - Community Engagement: Strengthening connections between stakeholders by facilitating cross-disciplinary networks and collaborations, workshops, and events to promote synergy and shared solutions to key data challenges in the region. - Policy Alignment: Supporting the RDA European regions’ alignment with European Commission and EOSC priorities at the national level. By integrating RDA Recommendations and practices, regions can ensure their research data policies are in line with Europe’s open science objectives. - Supporting Under-represented Regions: Ensuring equitable access to resources, knowledge, and networks for regions with limited research infrastructure and funding. Through targeted RDM training and support, RDA Europe helps strengthen research capacities and foster a more balanced and inclusive European research data landscape. For European research libraries, RDA Europe provides support and solutions to improve RDM services, support researchers in managing data effectively, and enhance the discoverability and reuse of research outputs. Its focus on interoperability and standards ensures that research libraries remain at the forefront of facilitating Open Science and are recognised as key stakeholders. This poster will also showcase examples of RDA Europe’s impact, from fostering semantic interoperability to supporting data-driven research collaborations to offering training. By strengthening connections between European stakeholders (including organisations, institutions, research libraries and consortia) and the global RDA network, RDA Europe is striving for a more open, efficient, and inclusive research environment.
