Epilepsia na urgência: um estudo epidemiológico sobre o perfil dos pacientes internados no nordeste do Brasil de 2012 a 2024

In this cross-sectional study, we analyzed the epidemiological profile of urgent hospitalizations due to epilepsy in the Brazilian Northeast, based on secondary data collected from the Hospital Information System of SUS (SIH/SUS) in DATASUS for the years 2012, 2022, and 2023. Variables considered included the number of urgent hospitalizations in the region, distributed across the states of the Northeast, sex (female and male), age groups (<1 year, 1 to 9 years, 10 to 19 years, 20 to 49 years, and 50 years or older), and race (White, Yellow, Indigenous, and Black, including both Brown and Black individuals). In the Black population, we also analyzed the number of deaths, in addition to the other mentioned variables. For statistical analysis, Pearson’s coefficient was used to verify trends in variable growth, while linear regression and the student’s t-test were applied for the Black population. The results showed a significant increase in most of the variables analyzed, with a growth trend, while linear regression revealed concerning increases among the variables analyzed in the Black population.
