TEACHING SOCIOLINGUISTIC COMPETENCE THROUGH DEBATE AND DISCUSSION IN HIGH SCHOOL
Sociolinguistic competence is a crucial aspect of language education, particularly in preparing high school students for effective communication in diverse social contexts. This paper examines the theoretical foundations of sociolinguistic competence, highlighting its definition, scope, and importance in language learning. It further explores the role of debate and discussion as dynamic tools for developing this competence, emphasizing their potential to foster critical thinking, adaptability, and cultural sensitivity. The research concludes with a discussion of how these theoretical frameworks can inform practical teaching strategies, equipping learners with the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly globalized and multicultural world.
