PREVALENCE AND MOLECULAR DETECTION OF MYCOBACTERIUM TUBERCULOSIS AND THEIR RESISTANCE TO RIFAMPICIN
Tuberculosis (TB), caused by the ancient pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis, remains a major global health challenge, with Pakistan ranking fifth among the 22 countries experiencing generalized TB epidemics. Rifampicin (RIF) has long been the cornerstone of TB treatment due to its potent anti-infective properties. This study, conducted in the Abbottabad district from October 2023 to May 2024, aimed to assess the prevalence of TB and rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis, along with identifying key risk factors contributing to the spread of the disease.
