China-Afghanistan Relations and the Wakhan Corridor: Assessing Economic Interests, Infrastructural Development, and Geopolitical Implications

Abstract: This study examines the relationship between China and Afghanistan within the framework of the Wakhan Corridor, with a particular emphasis on the geopolitical ramifications, infrastructure growth, and economic interests of this vital area. With the use of the snowballing technique and pertinent documents such as academic articles, government reports, policy papers, and news items, the research process entails a thorough content examination of primary data from experts. A complex mix of economic, security, and strategic objectives drives China's involvement in Afghanistan and the development of the Wakhan Corridor. China's investments in the corridor's infrastructure have a big impact on trade and connectivity throughout the region. China's geopolitical clout in Central Asia is reinforced by its engagement in the Wakhan Corridor, which might potentially affect Afghanistan's relations with its neighbours. In addition to being an important route linking China, Europe, and the Middle East, the Wakhan Mountain Corridor is being built with the intention of strengthening commercial links with China. China has geopolitical, security, and economic reasons for being involved in Afghanistan, especially in the Wakhan Corridor. It seeks to promote regional connectivity, advance economic goals, and establish influence in Central Asia. China's efforts in Afghanistan support its larger goals and have a positive economic and geopolitical impact. Afghanistan and its neighbours may maximize economic gains, minimize security worries, promote regional collaboration, and negotiate the complexity of China-Afghanistan relations in the Wakhan Corridor by putting the below recommendations into practice. This would pave the way for a more peaceful and prosperous future. Keywords: Relations, Wakhan, Economic, Development, Geopolitical.
