Role of Freshwater Fish in Controlling Mosquito Populations
Freshwater fish play a crucial role in controlling mosquito populations, serving as natural predators of mosquito larvae in aquatic ecosystems. This study investigates the effectiveness of various freshwater fish species in reducing mosquito populations, with a focus on both native and introduced species in diverse habitats. By analyzing the predation rates, feeding behaviors, and environmental adaptability of these fish, this research aims to identify the most effective species for biological mosquito control. The findings indicate that certain species, such as Gambusia affinis (mosquitofish), are particularly effective in reducing mosquito larvae density, making them valuable allies in integrated mosquito management strategies. This study highlights the potential of leveraging freshwater fish as an eco-friendly alternative to chemical mosquito control methods, contributing to sustainable public health interventions.
