Performance Analysis of a Compression Ignition (CI) Engine Using Renewable Fuels
The increasing demand for sustainable energy sources has led to a surge in the use of renewable fuels in internal combustion engines, particularly in compression ignition (CI) engines. The performance characteristics of a CI engine running on different renewable fuels, such as biodiesel, ethanol, and biogas, are examined in this study. Key performance indicators such as thermal efficiency, fuel consumption, emissions, and engine durability were measured and analyzed. Results show that renewable fuels offer competitive thermal efficiency and reduced emissions compared to conventional diesel, though some challenges in engine performance and material compatibility were noted. Biodiesel blends demonstrated the most favourable balance of efficiency and emissions, while ethanol provided significant emission reductions with minor efficiency trade-offs. This research provides insights into the viability of renewable fuels for CI engines, emphasizing their potential to reduce environmental impact while sustaining energy output.
