Optogenetic modulation of peripheral nociceptive neurons with biocompatible optoelectronic implants
This study demonstrates the development and validation of a soft optoelectronic implant for the sciatic nerve, using yellow light to inhibit nociceptive neurons. Optogenetic inhibition significantly reduces nociceptive mechanical and thermal pain sensitivity in mice, offering a promising non-pharmacological approach to treat chronic pain without affecting normal sensory function.
