Dinamika Kebebasan Berpendapat: Kasus Penahanan Aktivis Lingkungan Karimunjawa dalam Konteks Kritik terhadap Tambak Ilegal
This article explores the dynamics of freedom of expression in Indonesia through the lens of the detention case of Karimunjawa environmental activist, Daniel Frits. This study aims to understand the legal and social implications of such detentions, stemming from criticism of illegal shrimp farming practices that damage local ecosystems. Using the case analysis method, this article uncovers how the electronic information and transactions law (UU ITE) is used to silence critical voices, often with ambiguous interpretations. The study also highlights changes in the new ITE Law and how those changes may affect freedom of speech. Through the case of Daniel Frits, this article raises important questions about the boundary between constructive criticism and defamation, as well as the role of civil society in maintaining a balance between economic development and environmental preservation.
