Minimum Wage Versus Commodity market Price Analysis under Three Regimes 2014 – 2024: A Diametrical Relationship
This study attempts to investigate the diametrical relationship minimum wage versus Commodity market Price analysis under three regimes 2014 – 2024. Frequency tables, percentages and bar charts. The hypotheses were analyzed by means of E-views tool while ordinary Least Square model was adopted to test the hypotheses. Findings revealed that the most affected in the commodity price increase are rice, garri and cooking gas. Commodity prices were higher during Bola Tunibu regime as a result of growing inflation over the past period. The minimum wage increase had forty thousand (N40, 000) naira added to civil servants at every level from level 02 up to level 16. As a result of inflation, employment rate is declining greatly. Review of minimum wage from N30, 000 to N70, 000 lasted from 2011 to 2024 compared to other periods from 1999. The paper recommended that there should be gradual creation of transparent and liberalized national and regional agricultural markets. There is the need for government to forge closer links between or to merge production, resource-protection, and governance-oriented programs in rural areas. There is the need to support agricultural sector and its author’s research and advice, farmers’ organizations, rural financial systems and agricultural credits, contract farming, standards, and norms.
