They intensify competition for resources such as land, food and water, increase socio-economic tensions and often cause mass migratory flows. In addition, the increased frequency of extreme weather events, such as floods and hurricanes, results in significant losses that are extremely difficult to predict and control. This inevitably affects food security, upsetting the balance in the agri-food sector.
