Corrosion Inhibitive Capability of Bisoprolol Fumarate on Mild Steel Corrosion in 1M HCl Solution

Research was conducted to determine the corrosion-inhibiting effect of mild steel in a 1M HCl solution. The study was conducted experimentally and theoretically within a 301 to 331 K-temperature range. The inhibition efficiency of the inhibitor for mild steel was investigated in the absence and presence of bisoprolol fumarate as a corrosion inhibitor in the bulk of the solution. The electrochemical polarization and impedance spectral analysis suggested that the bisoprolol fumarate acts as a mixed type of adsorption inhibitor, and it is spontaneously adsorbed onto the surfaces of mild steel in 1M HCl solution exhibiting an inhibition efficiency of up to 80 %. The inhibitor molecule adsorbed onto the surfaces of mild steel was predicted by Langmauir's adsorption isotherm model and adsorption parameters to combine chemisorption and physisorption. The activation parameters indicated that the inhibitor adsorption onto the metal surface is endothermic. The surface morphology investigation of the protective layer on the mild steel surface by SEM images confirmed the formation of the adsorbed inhibitor layer onto the mild steel surfaces. The quantum chemical parameters of the inhibitor molecule strengthen the experimental results and convenience that the bisoprolol fumarate is an effective corrosion inhibitor.
