BRIDGING PHILIPPINES AND MOROCCO RELATIONS (1519-1975)
In 2025, marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of the Philippines and theKingdom of Morocco, established in 1975, this study seeks to reexamine and explore the historical and cultural connections between the two nations. While comparative studies of international relations typically center on political, geopolitical, and economic dimensions—emphasizing state visits, bilateral or multilateral treaties, and formal agreements—the deeper, often overlooked, histo-culturalaspects, which directly affect the lives of ordinary citizens, warrant further investigation. These dimensions transcend the confines of state-to-state or nation-to-nation relations, which are frequently the product of political negotiations. Thus, this study aims to transcend the simplistic framing of“1975” as the commencement of official ties, recognizing that the enduring relationship between the Philippines and Morocco spans centuries, predating the establishment of diplomatic formalities. The research will focus on historical accounts and other published studies, with the goal of illuminating the rich, multifaceted history that binds these twonations.
