Speechreading in Greek adults with normal hearing and hearing impairment
Speechreading is a major source of speech-related information. This study aims to introduce a novel speechreading assessment tool designed for Greek individuals with normal hearing (NH) and hearing impairment (HI). Ten young adults with NH and three young adults with HI participated in the study. Overall, the results suggest better performance in speechreading ability by individuals with HI than NH. In both groups there was variability on speechreading performance in both word and sentence tasks. Better performance in vowel vs. consonant speechreading ability was found for individuals with NH but not HI. The latter showed similar speechreading performance for both vowels and consonants.
