Towards an Innovative University of the 21st Century Era: Moroccan Higher Education as a Case Study

Recently, the world has been undergoing numerous economic, social, and political challenges that may affect quality assurance in Morocco’s education field. That is to say, the educational enterprise has always taken charge of that mission to respond to emerging issues, in general, and guide students to cope with, innovate, be creative, and find possible solutions, in particular. Thus, understanding innovative pedagogies and sharing best practices among Moroccan universities is key to redefining new approaches to teaching and learning the English language to prepare young generations to meet contemporary and upcoming challenges. To this end, this paper attempts to investigate innovative pedagogies used in Moroccan higher educational institutions and the practices that make the higher education domain innovative and meets the requirement of the 21st-century world. A semi-structured questionnaire was adopted to collect data and the SPSS 25.0 was used to analyze and interpret the data. The findings show that the infrastructural level is still facing a lot of challenges and teaching methods are traditional and do not provide sufficient support to develop students’ skills. However, there are some promising examples of teachers who play an omnipresent role in transforming their institutions to an innovative and creative place.
