From a Far High Place
Through the experiences of three primary characters Chapel Raymond, Brodie Raymond and Lucius Shango -- this novella explores the deep desire for the security of family, as well as the costs and sacrifices involved in belonging to a familial unit. The story, set in 1942 and 1943 in North Carolina -- in the imagined locales of Butler, Blackrock and Slade explores different shapes and mutations of the family, and confronts issues of truth, loyalty, self-preservation, and the sometimes slim difference between hope and denial.
