Lex and the sounds of greek hip hop: Investigating music reception and cultural impact
This dissertation investigates the cultural impact of Greek rapper Lex and the broader phenomenon of Greek hip hop through a combined academic and creative approach. Central to this study is a documentary that explores the impact of Lex’s music among listeners, capturing emotional connections, interpretations, and sociocultural influences. By integrating interviews, concert footage, and observational visuals, the documentary provides a multidimensional perspective on the artist’s significance and the socio-political context of his music. The written component complements the documentary by offering a theoretical framework. It contextualizes the history and evolution of Greek hip hop as a cultural movement. Reflections on the filmmaking process highlight the challenges and insights gained, bridging academic analysis with storytelling to present a comprehensive understanding of Lex’s influence and the enduring relevance of Greek hip hop in contemporary society.
