French ichthyological records for 2020

Uncommon fish records may reflect local or global changes in fish composition resulting from environmental changes or anthropogenic activities. Significant records of uncommon marine fishes, including migrant, non-native, cryptic, rare and threatened species, collected in French waters or by French vessels in European waters, landed in French fishmarkets, observed by scuba divers or beachgoers, are reported here for the year 2020. They include first, new, rare and unusual records for the following 38 species: Cetorhinus maximus, Oxynotus centrina, Squatina squatina, Tetronarce nobiliana, Aetomylaeus bovinus, Acipenser sturio, Hypophthalmichthys molitrix, Salmo trutta, Lampris guttatus, Zenopsis conchifer, Raniceps raninus, Parophidion vassali, Hyperoglyphe cf. bythites, Dactylopterus volitans, Nerophis maculatus, Syngnathus abaster, Buenia affinis, Buenia massutii, Didogobius schlieweni, Lebetus guilleti, Millerigobius macrocephalus, Speleogobius llorisi, Zeugopterus regius, Naucrates ductor, Seriola rivoliana, Trachinotus ovatus, Exocoetidae, Parablennius ruber, Salaria pavo, Pomadasys incisus, Mycteroperca rubra, Serranus cabrilla, Coris melanura, Chirolophis ascanii, Kyphosus sp., Lobotes surinamensis, Luvarus imperialis and Sphoeroides pachygaster. Four of these species, H. molitrix, B. massutii, S. llorisi and C. melanura represent first records for French marine or brackish waters and are new additions to the Checklist of the marine fishes from metropolitan France.
