Global Blackness in the Digital Age
For her capstone project, Joy Molloy enrolled in the course AFRICAAM 212: “How we Free Us” where she completed a service learning volunteer opportunity with a local non-profit, StreetCode Academy, and completed a presentation and six-paged paper on her experience. Molloy’s paper and presentation focused on her work with StreetCode and the activism she observed within as a means of unifying marginalized communities in the Bay Area, and included interviews with Stanford students to understand how they perceive Pan-Africanism playing a role in technology-related activism. More importantly, Molloy highlights how StreetCode Academy curates tech education rooted in Black Power, Pan-Africanist, and community-centered ideals and how this can be used as a modern tool to achieve liberation and unification across the African diaspora.
