Complete Genome Analysis of Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus OF44 and Its Probiotic characteristics In Vitro and In Vivo
Lactobacillus rhamnosus OF44 was isolated from the feces of a healthy adult female. Whole genome sequencing showed that the genome size of L. rhamnosus OF44 is 2,978,769 bp, with a total of 2,890 CDSs, and the average content of guanine and cytosine (G+C) is 47%. L. rhamnosus OF44 has a broad range of carbon source fermentation capabilities and can adapt well to harsh conditions. L.rhamnosus OF44 mainly colonizes and exerts antibacterial effects in the intestine or reproductive tract by producing various bioactive substances, such as lactic acid, short-chain fatty acids, hydrogen peroxide, secondary metabolites (including bacteriocins), and extracellular polysaccharides, thereby regulating immune homeostasis and environmental homeostasis. We further validated the hypothesis that L. rhamnosus OF44 can be used for oral treatment of reproductive tract diseases through BV rat experiments. In conclusion, L. rhamnosus OF44 can be considered a probiotic with great potential benefits for human health.
