Optimal Power Management and Energy Cost Saving for the Hybrid Microgrids under Uncertainties of Wind Speed and Solar Radiation Considering Demand Side Management (DSM)

Because the energy production of wind turbines (WT) and PV is highly dependent on wind speed and solar radiation, the financial consequences of weather changes in a hybrid microgrid (HMG) have been analyzed. To provide optimal performance of the microgrid, demand side management (DSM) has been also included in the modeling. For this purpose, based on actual weather conditions and output results of Homer software in the hourly data section, the hourly power generation of PV and WT is obtained. Then, optimal energy management among PV, WT, battery, main grid, and a diesel generator is obtained considering DSM and uncertainty in the weather condition, using GAMS software. According to the obtained results, the proper charging and discharging of batteries and demand management in the HMG have essential roles in energy cost saving, operation cost reducing, and reducing purchased electrical energy from the main grid under different weather conditions.
