Interview with Tom Dixon
Audio recording and transcript of Tom Dixon's 1979 interview with Myrtle Bergren for the Coal Tyee History Project. Dixon shares information about his family's arrival on Vancouver Island in 1907, when they moved Northfield so that his father could work in the local coal mines. He spends some time talking about coal mining equipment, including different lamps used, and he talks about his own dislike for the noises in the mines. Dixon gives some details about his father's time as a lighthouse keeper, and he also recalls the 1910 explosion at the powder works in Departure Bay that was so powerful it wrapped a piece of rail around a tree.
