Externalized Cognitive Loop and Structural Responsiveness: A Layered Model for Evaluating Intellectual Dialogue

This project introduces the Externalized Cognitive Loop (ECL) and Structural Responsiveness Index (SRI) models as theoretical extensions to the Structured Intellectual Safe Space (SISS) framework. Together, they form a three-layer model for evaluating and designing intellectual dialogue systems, particularly those involving structurally marginalized or cognitively divergent users. The ECL model describes a generative loop in which questions and responses recursively refine each other without collapsing into fixed meanings, enabling intellectual continuity and expansion. The SRI model, on the other hand, proposes a structural index for measuring the responsiveness of systems and institutions to unresolved or ambiguous questions. While SISS focuses on the preservation of the question as a structure, ECL models the productive recursion of that structure, and SRI evaluates its institutional legibility. This layered framework aims to provide a novel perspective for the design and assessment of responsive systems in domains such as HCI, education, AI dialogue, and social inclusion.
