Low-Cost Smart Agriculture Monitoring System Using LoRa and Edge AI for Small-Scale Farmers
Agriculture monitoring is crucial for ensuring crop health and resource efficiency. Traditional IoT systems face challenges like power constraints and connectivity issues in rural areas. This paper proposes a low-cost, energy-efficient smart agriculture monitoring system using LoRa-based communication and Edge AI for real-time decision-making. The system integrates sensors (soil moisture, temperature, humidity), an edge AI node using Raspberry Pi, and LoRa for long-range transmission. Field testing demonstrates that the system provides>91% accuracy in predicting irrigation needs and reduces water usage by 28% in three weeks of operation, making it suitable for small-scale farmers in remote areas.
