Advancements in Synthetic Biodegradable Polymers for Dental Applications: A Scoping Review
Over the past year, research on biodegradable polymers for medical applications has increased significantly due to their desirable properties, such as biocompatibility, non-cytotoxicity, and environmental friendliness, which align with the growing global awareness of health and sustainable development. However, a systematic review of the literature from the past decade reveals that most studies have primarily focused on general medical applications, often emphasizing naturally derived biodegradable polymers. There remains a lack of systematic reviews specifically addressing synthetic biodegradable polymers and their applications in dentistry. This study aims to fill this gap by providing a comprehensive scoping review of synthetic biodegradable polymers and exploring their potential use in dental applications. The findings are expected to support the development of sustainable and environmentally conscious approaches in dental science and practice.
