Assessing carbon and nitrogen stable isotope variability within individual carbonised archaeological cereal grains

This report presents a small study examining whether there is a difference in 13C and δ15N values within a single charred grain recovered from Bronze Age sites in southern Hungary. The aim of this study was to determine whether whole grains require grinding before being weighed out for stable isotope analysis, or whether half or even a quarter of a grain was adequate.
