Clinical applications of CBCT-based root canal segmentation in endodontics: a scoping review

This scoping review aims to map and synthesize the available scientific evidence on the clinical applications of CBCT-based root canal segmentation in endodontics. The review will be conducted in accordance with the PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews) guidelines. Eligibility criteria will follow the PCC framework: Population (patients requiring endodontic treatment), Concept (CBCT-based root canal segmentation), and Context (diagnosis, treatment planning, or execution of root canal therapy). No restrictions will be applied regarding language or publication date. Systematic searches will be conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane, and LILACS, in addition to grey literature sources such as Google Scholar and ProQuest. Data extraction will include publication details, study design, clinical context, segmentation tools, and reported outcomes. By identifying and organizing current evidence, this review seeks to clarify how segmentation has been used in clinical endodontics and highlight areas for future research.
